Backup your Firefox v.3.6 profile

8 February 2010 No Comment

Firefox v.3.6 made it a little easier to backup your profile. Your profile stores information such as plugins and bookmarks. In the web address bar, enter the following line:

about:server

Once you arrive at this page, click the “Open Containing Folder” button. Once there, mark the location, or just navigate to your /home/”username”/.mozilla/firefox/

Your profile folder will have a *.default folder name. Go ahead and copy that folder somewhere safe. I am not sure what Mozilla had in mind with this function. Most users would not want to copy and backup this directory. If you want to create an additional profile in Firefox or import your profile after recovering from a failure insert the following command in Terminal.

firefox -ProfileManager

A dialog box will open and you can select to create a new profile.
