Comcast offers 2GB of free backup and share

19 February 2010 No Comment

Comcast, one of the nation’s largest Internet Service Providers, is offering all high speed internet users 2GB online storage and backup space. The service is operated by Mozy, a well-trusted third party backup service. The service currently supports Windows variants listed below, but not Mac or Linux. I would not suspect that a Linux client would be supported anytime soon, since Mozy itself does not either.

For my money, which is none, Dropbox has the superior backup and share program available. It is cross client compatible (Mac, Linux, Microsoft), has an excellent iPhone app, and is the essence of functionality. You can share folders with others and even gain additional free storage by inviting people to get a free Dropbox account. Dropbox will provide you with 250MG for each free account that you refer.

This post was supposed to be about Comcast and this new service, but frankly, the Dropbox client and platform is a superior product open to anyone who has a computer. What are you waiting for, go do it!
