The PlayStation Network (PSN) and Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) outage has been a long and taxing experience for Sony and its over 100 million customers. On April 20, 2011, Sony turned off its PSN to users because of an external intrusion to their systems. Although the physical file left on Sony’s servers used language of the hacker group Anonymous, they have denied responsibility for the intrusion.

Sony Online Entertainment

SOE posted a message on its Facebook Wall stating that they will be down for the weekend.

PSN’s latest press release on May 6 states that they are “still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure.” While Sony had offered previous estimates of on phased online presence, they admit that “We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers.” They don’t come right out and say it, but I would not expect the PSN to be available this weekend.
